Health and
´Livelihood

In 2023, the objectives set for the Health and Livelihoods project were successfully achieved.

  • The Epidemiological Surveillance Table of the Northern Border and Local Networks activated two levels of action to strengthen territorial work in the Epidemiological Surveillance Table of the Northern Border (MVECFN) and territorial tables in Esmeraldas, Carchi, Imbabura and Sucumbíos.

  • During 2023, key actions were planned, such as contributions to public policy, training for community guards and health personnel, and an educommunication strategy, with RIOS as Technical Secretariat.

  • The territorial tables regularly report on progress and challenges, highlighting notable actions in Esmeraldas, Carchi, Sucumbíos and Imbabura.

  • Four community surveillance networks were established in 55 communities, with trained community agents linked to local health units.

  • Health personnel were trained and a surveillance protocol was implemented.

  • The project benefited indigenous communities that were difficult to access post-pandemic, implementing 424 ancestral chakras in Waorani, Kichwa, Épera, Chachi and Afro-Ecuadorian communities.

  • A diagnosis was carried out in the beneficiary communities to begin a training process in the implementation of ancestral chakras.

  • 50 economic initiatives were promoted, such as raising chickens, fish, bakeries and candy factories to improve living conditions.

  • Despite the challenges in Esmeraldas due to violence and flooding, the project adapted its strategies to address the crises, prioritizing virtual work and providing support to affected communities.
